Rectangular shapes are the all-purpose rigid conductor for switchgear, control apparatus and busways. Heat dissipation can be improved through the use of a multiple bus bar arrangement, resulting in a larger surface area. The use of rectangular bus bar makes it easy to create joints and taps by bolting or welding, and also simplifies the creation of 90-degree bends and off-sets. Varying the size or number of bars in a parallel arrangement can control the capacity of a bus bar conductor using direct current, as well as alternating current up to certain limits. High-amperage alternating current can be handled with special arrangements of laminations.
